FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DECEMBER 09, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – After years of hard work by the Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF) in coordination with the Department of Justice and the FBI, SETF is very proud to announce that the United States has indicted Jamil Hassan and Abdel Salam Mahmoud, top war criminals of the Assad regime for the killing of the humanitarian and American hero Layla Shweikani.
Now it is our time to catch these criminals and bring them to the United States for trial. We are also proud to have facilitated all the witness interviews and testimonies before a secret Grand Jury in Chicago. These witnesses were key to achieving these indictments, including our executive director’s aunt Dina Kash, who played a pivotal role in getting these indictments to happen because she was tortured by the same criminals as Laila was. When we catch these criminals, Dina will be a powerful witness among other brave Syrians testifying in an American court about the killing of innocent civilians by the Assad regime thugs.
Congratulations on this step towards justice, and congratulations to the world on a free Syria.
