FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON D.C. – For over 40 days, Daraa al-Balad has been under siege as the Assad Regime and Iranian-backed militias have not stopped the waves of attacks. The birthplace of the peaceful Syrian uprising in March 2011, this movement was met with brutal and ruthless violence. Over the past decade, despite international agreements to establish Daraa as a military de-escalation zone, this has not stopped the Assad Regime from continuing to launch military campaigns against the rebels and terrorizing the citizens. With little reliable support and action from the US and other countries, the people of Daraa were resigned to accepting a reconciliation agreement with the Regime in 2018, in the hopes of avoiding further military violence and stepping towards restoring peace. However, this compromise proved to be illegitimate, as the Regime has once more launched attacks on Daraa, culminating in an appalling death toll and displacement of people.

As Iran and Assad’s brutal siege and military campaign against civilians in Daraa continue, SETF has published this report based on information and with the coordination directly from the ground in the besieged civilian areas. This report is an effort to further educate on the current situation and call for urgent action. Sharing of this information is imperative in spreading awareness and bringing to light how much the people of Daraa are suffering.
