SETF Response to the Murder of George Floyd and Racial Injustice in the United States

The Syrian Emergency Task Force is deeply saddened by the tragic murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all of our Black brothers and sisters who have been victims of senseless violence and oppression. We extend our condolences to those directly affected by these acts of injustice and those who are hurting. SETF stands in solidarity with the Black community. We condemn racism and law enforcement’s use of violence against civilians.

The Syrian Emergency Task Force stands for justice and accountability. Since our founding in 2011, our organization has worked to support the Syrian people in their demands for freedom and dignity irrespective of their regional or sectarian background. Over the past nine years, we have witnessed unspeakable cruelties against civilians by the oppressive Syrian regime. While recognizing the vast difference of circumstances, we feel compelled to speak up for those suffering injustice in the United States as well.

To our Black brothers and sisters in the United States, we hear your cries. We feel your pain. We stand with you in this fight. We pledge to continue to shed light on injustice and promote equality. We stand with you both in solidarity and support.

Black Lives Matter.
