Free Mazen: 3 Years Disappeared

February 23, 2023 @ 1:00 am - 2:30 am UTC+3

As we approach the three-year anniversary of Mazen al-Hamada’s disappearance, we cannot help but feel deep sadness and frustration. Mazen, a former detainee, and survivor of torture in Syria was a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of unspeakable atrocities committed by the Assad regime.

Through his unprecedented activism, Mazen managed to share the stories of countless individuals who suffered at the hands of the regime and its Russian and Iranian allies, uncovering the horrific crimes that often go unseen and unheard.
In 2017, Mazen worked with Ambassador Stephen Rapp alongside Afshar Films on the powerful documentary “Syria’s Disappeared.” The 50-minute film tells the story of tens of thousands of individuals who were forcibly disappeared into a network of secret detention centers and it serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and democracy in Syria.

The Syrian Emergency Task Force would like to invite you to join us for a virtual screening of “Syria’s Disappeared” on Wednesday, February 22nd at 5:00 pm EST. After the screening, we will host a live discussion featuring survivors, key witnesses, and experts on Syria as they explore the progress toward justice for Mazen and all of the disappeared Syrians.

By remembering Mazen and all of those who have suffered at the hands of the Assad regime, we are reminded of our collective responsibility to fight for a better future for the Syrian people. Please join us as we stand in solidarity with those who continue to fight for justice, democracy, and dignity.
