2024 ended with an extraordinary event, the fall of the Assad regime on Dec. 8, 2024. This has required a ‘major pivot’ in the focus of SETF from ‘how to save lives in Syria’ to ‘how to build a free, democratic Syria’. One thing has stayed the same, SETF’s committed leadership to substantially improving the lives of all Syrians. Mouaz Moustafa is a gifted leader and has positioned SETF as a ‘trusted partner’ to the new provisional government and the vast majority of countries and organizations that want to help. SETF will be working day in and day out to overcome the past 14 years of dictatorial government and brutal assault on its citizens. We have a relentless job ahead but the optimism that exists within Syria and the fact that Syria deserves to recover its future motivate the SETF Board and SETF Team to maximize its ability to help in any way it can to accelerate Syria’s progress toward a democratic future.
